The SmartPod® by Hill & Smith is a cartridge-based impact attenuator designed to help protect motorists, roadway workers and fixed roadside hazards. Tested to AASHTO MASH Test Level 3, SmartPod provides redirective, non-gating and bi-directional crash protection for permanent roadway applications and temporary work zones.

Available in select markets through RoadSafe Traffic Systems, SmartPod can be installed in front of concrete barriers, median barriers, bridge structures, sign supports and other fixed hazards. Its compact, repairable design makes it a practical option for transportation agencies, contractors and infrastructure owners seeking reliable crash protection with simplified installation and restoration.

Permanent and Temporary Crash Protection

SmartPod is suitable for both permanent highway installations and temporary work zone applications. It may be used to protect barrier ends, roadway structures and other hazards in locations where redirective crash protection is required.

The system is delivered fully assembled on a skid-mounted frame, helping reduce installation time and worker exposure near active traffic. SmartPod can be installed on approved concrete or asphalt foundations and connected to many common roadside and median barrier configurations.

Simplified Post-Impact Repair

SmartPod uses replaceable energy-absorbing Pods to help manage impact forces. Following an impact, the system can be extended back to its original position and restored by replacing the affected Pods and damaged components.

This cartridge-based design can help reduce repair time, replacement parts, labor and traffic-control requirements compared with systems that require complete replacement after an impact.
