Traffic Control Flagger Position in Roanoke, Virginia

RoadSafe is hiring a Traffic Control Flagger in Roanoke, VA. This position helps direct traffic around construction sites, road maintenance areas, lane closures, and other active work zones.

Flaggers use hand signals, signs, stop/slow paddles, two-way radios, and other traffic control devices to communicate with motorists and guide them through or around the work area.

Traffic Control Work in the Roanoke Valley

RoadSafe crews in the Roanoke area may support roadway construction, utility work, maintenance operations, and infrastructure projects throughout the Roanoke Valley and surrounding Southwest Virginia communities.

This role is a good fit for candidates who are dependable, comfortable working outdoors, and ready to support field crews in changing traffic and weather conditions.

Essential Functions

• Set up signs, cones, barrels, barricades, and other traffic control devices around work areas.
• Manage traffic flow with stop/slow paddles and approved traffic control methods.
• Communicate with team members using two-way radios.
• Stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms for up to 10 hours a day.
• Lift, carry, push, pull, and move items over 50 pounds.
• Drive company vehicles to transport traffic control equipment to and from job sites.
• Perform routine vehicle inspections and maintenance checks.
• Work around outside weather, moving equipment, traffic, fumes, and airborne particles.
• Adhere to company policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Valid driver's license.
• Must pass a background check, including a motor vehicle records check.
• Must pass a drug test and meet federal DOT requirements.
• Must wear proper safety equipment, including safety toe work boots, hard hat, safety glasses, and safety vest.
• Ability to operate a two-way radio.
• Willingness to work in various weather conditions and traffic settings.
• Ability to communicate effectively with contractors and internal teams.
• Ability to work well in a team environment.
• Excellent attendance, reliable transportation, and a strong work ethic.
• Ability to complete ATSSA Flagger training and company-sponsored Defensive Driver training.
• Willingness to travel statewide, with occasional overnight stays.
• Ability to work nights and weekends as required by projects.
• Availability for a rotating on-call schedule.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this Traffic Control Flagger position is $16.00 to $16.50 per hour. This is a full-time, field-based traffic control position in Roanoke, Virginia.
