Traffic Control Flagger II Position in Roanoke, Virginia

The Traffic Control Flagger II is responsible for helping direct the flow of traffic around construction sites, road maintenance areas, lane closures, and other active work zones. This role involves setting up and taking down traffic control signs, cones, barrels, barricades, and other temporary traffic control devices.

Flaggers use hand signals, signs, stop/slow paddles, two-way radios, and other traffic control equipment to communicate with motorists and guide them through or around the work area.

This is a full-time field operations position based in Roanoke, VA. The role requires attention to detail, strong attendance, clear communication, and the ability to work outdoors in changing weather and traffic conditions.

Essential Functions

• Set up signs, cones, barrels, barricades, and other traffic control devices around work areas.
• Manage traffic flow with stop/slow paddles and other approved traffic control methods.
• Communicate with team members using two-way radios.
• Stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms for up to 10 hours a day.
• Lift, carry, push, pull, and move items over 50 pounds.
• Drive company vehicles to transport traffic control equipment to and from job sites.
• Perform routine vehicle inspections and maintenance checks.
• Work around outside weather, moving equipment, traffic, fumes, and airborne particles.
• Adhere to company policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Valid driver's license.
• Must pass a background check, including a motor vehicle records check.
• Must pass a drug test and meet federal DOT requirements.
• Must wear proper safety equipment, including safety toe work boots, hard hat, safety glasses, and safety vest.
• Ability to operate a two-way radio.
• Willingness to work in various weather conditions and traffic settings.
• Ability to communicate effectively with contractors and internal teams.
• Ability to work well in a team environment.
• Excellent attendance, reliable transportation, and a strong work ethic.
• Ability to complete ATSSA Flagger training and company-sponsored Defensive Driver training.
• Willingness to travel statewide, with occasional overnight stays.
• Ability to work nights and weekends as required by projects.
• Availability for a rotating on-call schedule.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this Traffic Control Flagger II position is $16.00 to $16.50 per hour. This is a full-time, field-based traffic control position in Roanoke, Virginia.
