Traffic Control Flagger Position in Hopewell, Virginia

The Traffic Control Flagger is responsible for directing the flow of traffic around construction sites, road maintenance areas, and other work zones. This role involves setting up and taking down traffic control signs, cones, and barricades.

Flaggers use hand signals, signs, stop/slow paddles, and other traffic control devices to communicate with motorists and guide them through or around the work area.

Essential Functions

• Set up signs, cones, and other traffic control devices around work areas to divert traffic.
• Manage traffic flow with stop/slow paddles.
• Communicate with team members using two-way radios.
• Stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms for up to 10 hours a day.
• Lift, carry, push, pull, and move items over 50 pounds.
• Drive company vehicles to transport traffic control equipment to and from job sites.
• Perform routine vehicle inspections and maintenance checks.
• Work around outside weather, moving equipment, traffic, fumes, and airborne particles.
• Adhere to company policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Valid driver's license.
• Must pass a background check, including a motor vehicle records check.
• Must pass a drug test and meet federal DOT requirements.
• Must wear proper safety equipment, including safety toe work boots, hard hat, safety glasses, and safety vest.
• Ability to operate a two-way radio.
• Willingness to work in various weather conditions and traffic settings.
• Ability to communicate effectively with contractors and internal teams.
• Ability to work well in a team environment.
• Excellent attendance, reliable transportation, and a strong work ethic.
• Ability to complete ATSSA Flagger training and company-sponsored Defensive Driver training.
• Willingness to travel statewide, with occasional overnight stays.
• Ability to work nights and weekends as required by projects.
• Availability for a rotating on-call schedule.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 to $17.50 per hour. RoadSafe offers competitive pay, growth potential, and benefits including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) plans for those who qualify.

This is a full-time, field-based traffic control position.
